I did not have the stamina to post last night when coming back from the Naked Conversations launch party, but this was one hell of a party that will be remembered… until we throw an even bigger one (for the Edgeio launch ?). From being sold out in about 45 minutes to actually having 400+ people on the invite list, this party promised to be of gigantic proportions. And with the weather turning to the very cold (it might even snow in the highest points of the Valley over the week-end), I was glad that Mike had elected to get a heated tent installed in the garden.
From 7pm onwards, a constant flow of cars and people made it to James Avenue, some parking hundreds of yards away from the House. At the busiest moment of the evening, I would guess that we had over 300 people in the house and the tent. But it went very smoothly, even if the heating system stopped working at some point during the evening.
Shel and Robert spent hours autographing Naked Conversations, their now famous book (my review here, their first ever autograph here). Because I was at the back of the tent when they briefly addressed attendees, I did not see that they had taken their clothes off for a “Naked Chat” (see here, here and here). Given that the temperature was in the low 30 degrees, that was a performance.
All in all, a great time spent chatting with very smart people, doing very interesting things. The bbq’ed food was great, and Stormhoek, that I tasted for the first time, were showing definite promise. Thanks again to Mike for his continued hospitality (and to his neighbors for their enduring patience).
And best of luck to Shel and Robert – wishing them spectacular sales of the book.
